FCC Leaks Asus Eee Keyboard Specifications & Features

FFC Lets Asus Eee Keyboard Details Slip, Confirms Eee Keyboard Speculation

One of the most interesting netbook-like computer Asus has created so far is the Eee Keyboard. The first prototype has been unveiled at CES 2009 and since then anxious consumers across the galaxy have been waiting for Asus to officially announce it.

The Eee Keyboard is not yet available in stores although it should have been here a few months ago. So if Asus isn’t willing to make it official then let’s head over to the FCC for some details. Kept as a secret so far by Asus, the features of the Eee Keyboard have been unwillingly unveiled by the documentation submitted to the FCC.

So what will this ultraportable computer have to offer you? Without further ado, here’s what we know so far about the Eee Keyboard:

  • Intel Atom CPU processor
  • 945GSE chipset
  • 5-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen display
  • Broadcom AV-VD905 video decoder
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 16 or 32GB of flash storage
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • Windows XP Home
  • HDMI and VGA outputs
  • 4-hour battery
  • Ultra-Wideband system
  • UWB receiver with two USB ports, mini-USB, audio-out and HDMI-out

Nothing spectacular for a netbook you’d say? I would agree but I would also point out two significant features, the 5-inch touchscreen display and the UWB system. It’s pretty clear what the 5-inch screen will do for you but the UWB system has to be explained. UWB stands for Ultra Wide Broadband and it’s a special technology which will let you send 720p video or data to a display of your choice without the need of actual cables. Video has only a 5-meter range while data will go up to 10 meters. All you need now is a display capable of UWB connectivity and you’re good to go!

So what do you think? Are you more excited about this Eee Keyboard now that you know what it will have to offer? Will you buy a Keyboard or a regular netbook? Prices and availability dates haven’t been mentioned in the paperwork filed with the FCC so we’re still waiting for Asus to announce the computer properly. And according to previous rumors that should happen sometime this month!
