Archos 5 Internet Tablet 160GB Model Pulled by Amazon

A Problem with the Archos 5’s Listing, or an Issue with the Archos 5 Itself?

On Friday we offered our US based readers insight as to Amazon listing both the 32GB and 160GB Android powered Archos 5 as available to purchase whilst advising that user feedback is, at best, varied (and, at worse, pretty damning) and now, interestingly, it would appear that Amazon have ceased offering the 160GB Archos 5, instead offering up a notice stating that the item is ‘under review’.

At this juncture we don’t actually know why Amazon have acted to pull (specifically) the 160GB Android Archos 5 – the 32GB Android Archos 5 is, at least as at the time of writing, still shipping – and Amazon’s notice hardly helps us to narrow in on what the issue may be, in merely stating:

Item Under Review

This item is currently unavailable from Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it’s described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We’re working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

It could, of course, be an issue with the actual product listing – not that we saw anything listed that we felt was an issue – or it could be (and this is mere speculation) because the device is getting some pretty poor feedback, particularly concerning stability issues. That said, its not like this is the only product to be offered by Amazon to get miserable feedback for end users.

Here’s but two samples of what customers have had to say about the Android Archos 5:

“Tethering does not work and is constantly crashing. There is no flash support although this may be coming in a few months. The FM transmitter will not work unless you buy their car dock. The gps costs money. It crashes even more often than the last generation. I have never bought a product that is so unfinished. Never buy Archos.”

“This item worked for 1 minute and then the wifi application would not respond and would crash could not connect. I will be returning this item tommorrow.” (sic)

In truth, its not like the Android Archos 5 isn’t getting good reviews as well but, interestingly, even these mention that the device has the tendency to keep locking up.

The moment we can establish why Amazon has pulled the 160GB Android Archos 5 we’ll get back to you but, at least so far, it would appear that Archo’s Android powered internet tablet is hardly getting quite the response that Archos would have hoped.
