Nvidia Ion 2 Chipset Set to Release This Year?

According to a somewhat brief report by Fudzilla, duly credited and linked below, it would appear that the successor to Nvidia’s enormously popular Ion chipset, known merely and somewhat predictably as Ion 2, is set to commence shipping as early as this year.
Whilst specific details concerning what the 2nd Gen Ion chipset brings to the table is particularly sparse at this juncture, it has been widely reported that the Ion 2 stems from Nvidia’s new 40nm manufacturing process and, purportedly, not only boasts double the shader count of the present Ion but also offers up VIA Nano processor support (continued Atom support is, of course, a given). More interesting technical details, however, such as the Ion 2’s clock frequencies as well as any insight as to the Ion 2’s performance as yet have proved wholly unforthcoming and shrouded in mystery, with Nvidia opting to play everything close to their corporate, logo emblazoned chests (doubtless in order to ensure that they can control the timing of the considerable hype that will doubtless occasion the Ion s’2 release).
We’ll bring you more details the moment they are made available to us.
