I’ll have to warn you in advanced that the phone you’re about to see is not a BlackBerry smartphone although it definitely looks and feels like one. The Billionair 7 is a Kempler & Strauss creation that has just been officially unveiled.

Kempler & Strauss decided it was time to launch a business-class smartphone and from what I’ve seen so far they did a pretty fine job. The Billionair 7 looks good and it will probably be a good business tool in the right hands. And the phone is available for a great price too which makes me think there must be a catch somewhere.

The Billionair 7 combines two features that RIM hasn’t bundled together yet. The phone comes with both a 2.5-touchscreen display with QVGA resolution and a full QWERTY keyboard. Other features include quad-band 3.5G support, a 624MHz CPU, 3-megapixel camera for taking pictures on the go, a 0.3-megapixel camera for conference calls, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 support, up to 8GB of additional storage via microSD memory card slot but no GPS. In the box you’ll also find an earpiece and a stylus which should be more than helpful during those long days at the office.

The phone will be available for just $275 and comes with a one-year warranty. The press release doesn’t say if any carrier will start selling the phone but just in case they do, you can expect to get it for an even cheaper price.

The phone is based on the Microsoft Windows Mobile Platform which means it will be quite easy to get used to it. On the other hand, this Windows Mobile Platform could prove to be the Achilles’ heel of the Billionair 7. Or is the lack of GPS support the feature that could determine you not to purchase this Kempler & Strauss phone?

I haven’t found the catch yet, as this phone looks impeccable so far. It’s a great alternative to a lot of smartphones out there. It has a great price that doesn’t force you to enter any new agreement with any carrier out there. So will it be successful? Does Kempler & Strauss have the strength to turn it into a best-seller phone? What do you think about the Billionair 7?
