LaCie Starck Desktop Hard Drive

LaCie have paied up with renowned designer Philippe Starck once again to produce their just unveiled LaCie Starck Desktop Hard Drive series of external USB hard disks that, apart from topping out at 2TB capacity, come with what LaCie term as an ‘intelligent touch-sensitive surface’.

Sporting an aluminum casing, the new LaCie Starck external hard drives, apart from boasting aesthetics that put many an external HDD to shame (except for Neil Poulton’s offerings also on offer from LaCie) come with the aforementioned intelligent touch-sensitive surface which LaCie state can open the ‘application of your choosing’ dependant on whether you tap the surface or opt for a longer touch.

Aside from their startlingly cool appearance and their touch front panels, the LaCie Starck external USB hard drives, which measure in at 195 x 115 x 52mm an weigh 1.38kg, sport a USB 2.0 interface – no USB 3.0 models mentioned as yet I’m afraid – allowing for data transfer speeds up to 480Mbits/s, are Windows and Mac compatible and are set to become available in 1TB and 2TB capacity models which will retail at just shy of $130 and $250 respectively.

There’s no word from LaCie as at the time of writing concerning an actual date of release but, as is established tradition with LaCie, the official product page is up and, if you’re desperate to know then these LaCie Starck drives start shipping, you can opt to have LaCie mail you the moment they’re happy to take your cash.
