Cellular South, the US’s largest privately held wireless provider, have now confirmed that customers are able to pre-order the Android powered HTC Hero either via their website or Cellular South stores with the touchscreen handset’s pricing set at just $99 subsequent to applying a mail-in rebate.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the GSM/HSDPA HTC Hero – which has been around for some time now – the Hero holds the distinction of being HTC’s third Android based phone (following on from the HTC Dream and HTC Magic) and comes with a 3.2” fingerprint resistant, multitouch touchscreen sporting 320 x 480 resolution, a 5 megapixel camera, integrated GPS, digital compass, accelerometer and, of course in being an Android powered handset, you can count on it offering up all the usual Google mobile applications such as Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube.

Additionally, and by way of information, along with announcing that pre-orders are now accepted for the HTC hero – though we’re yet to see an actual date of availability specified, Cellular South have also introduced their new Smartphone Unlimited Plan which, according to Cellular South’s press blurb, is ‘the first plan of its kind which makes the enriched user experience smartphones provide and advanced devices, such as the HTC Hero, even more accessible to individuals and families.’ In short, the Smartphone Unlimited Plan, which will set you back just short of $80 per month, allows for unlimited talktime, texting, web access and e-mail access without ‘worrying about counting minutes, megabytes, or surprise bills’.

As stated above, the Cellular South HTC Hero can be pre-ordered as of now.
