AT&T Allows iPhone VoIP Calls Over 3G

The wires just got hotter and hotter with AT&T stating that restrictions concerning the iPhone VoIP calls over 3G have now been waved. If the iPhone previously offered VoIP calls only via Wi-Fi, today AT&T has announced in a press release that they have taken necessary steps to allow Apple to enable VoIP applications on their smartphone to run on the carrier’s wireless network.
“iPhone is an innovative device that dramatically changed the game in wireless when it was introduced just two years ago,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets. “Today’s decision was made after evaluating our customers’ expectations and use of the device compared to dozens of others we offer.”
The new announcement comes in as a follow up to the FCC’s renewed push for net neutrality, but it looks more like a way to ensure more attractive options for consumers.
Meanwhile you can start dreaming about Skype or other VoIP applications that will get you nearly free calls to wherever in the world. Sounds like a good decision from our end …
