Joby Gorillamobile for iPhone/iPod Touch Released

If you have a Gorillapod fro your camera you’ll doubtless know how handy these flexible stands/tripods are and now, should you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you’ll be pleased to know that Joby have just released its Gorillamobile for the iPhone/iPod Touch in what strikes us as an all too obvious (yet clever) extension of the original, innovative device that’s taken the photography world by storm since its initial release.

The Gorillamobile is, as you’d suspect, basically a Gorillapod that comes with a soft-touch iPhone case with adapter as well as two removable 3M high bond residue-free adhesive clips and, yes, you can also factor in a universal camera adapter as well (Joby really have thought this through). The result, for those unfamiliar with Joby’s Gorillapods, is a highly versatile, flexible tripod that as well as serving as a free standing stand can also be mounted to a host of other bases – basically, if you can wrap its ball and socket legs around it, the device will hold tight.
Its uses are virtually limitless as, on the one side, it’ll happy serve as a ‘traditional’ stand serving to hold your iPhone/iPod Touch on, say, a desk or table whilst, thanks to its aforementioned ball and socket legs, it’ll also prove handy when, say, travelling (attach it to the seat in front on aircraft, trains, etc) or even on bicycle handlebars – and so on.

“The proliferation of ‘iPhoneography,’ in addition to the 3GS’s video and camera upgrade, has only increased the already demonstrated need for an adaptable iPhone stand,” said Joby CEO Forrest Baringer-Jones who introduced the Gorillamobile. “We created the Gorillamobile for 3G/3GS to address the consumer’s dual needs around both protecting and supporting the iPhone while capturing video or shooting still images.”
Of course, as we have stated, if it works with the iPhone (3G/3GS) then, obviously, it’ll happily also work with the iPod Touch and, to that end, we find it a little odd that even the most cursory of mentions regarding the Gorillamobile’s suitability for the Touch is not in evidence – it’s not as if the Touch doesn’t have a market, after all, and therefore a solid consumer base.
The Joby iPhone/iPod Touch Gorillamobile, which measures in at a max of 8”, is available as of now and carries a price tag coming in at just shy of $40.
