Barrage ‘Tough Phone’ Boasts Waterproofing, Mil Spec Certified Ruggedness

Following on from news that Verizon is set to offer the Nokia 2705 Shade this month Verizon have also acted to confirm that, as from today, they are also carrying the Motorola Barrage ultra rugged phone which boasts military certification in terms of its resistance to water, dust, shocks, vibration and drops.

Capable of withstanding being submersed in water for up to 30 minutes at depths of up to one meter, the Motorola Barrage, aside from its tough phone credentials, is also billed as offering best-in-class  Push to Talk capabilities on top of offering access to Verizon Wireless multimedia and entertainment services meaning that, according to Verizon, ‘customers never have to rough it, even when they’re using the device in rough environments’.

The Motorola Barrage, which measures in at 96 x 53 x 24mm and weighs 119g, comes with a 2.2” 176 x 220 resolution 65K color TFT display, integrated 2 megapixel camera, multimedia capabilities taking in MP3, AAC, AAC+ and WMA audio file formats and, as well as offering up a headphone jack, it also comes with stereo Bluetooth 2.1 allowing you to hook up wireless headsets or headphones. Naturally, in being a handset designed for use in the great outdoors, the Barrage also comes with inbuilt GPS functionality.

The Verizon Motorola Barrage is set to become available as of today via Verizon’s online portal and via business sales channels and will set you back around $130 subsequent to a $50 mail in rebate and based on a 2 year contract. And, if you’re averse to ordering online, you’ll be pleased to know that the Barrage is scheduled to hit Verizon’s stores from November 16th.

      On the reference webpage, the second paragraph starts out by saying, “Cable of withstanding being submersed in water…” It probably should say “Capable” instead of “Cable.” :-)
