Freecom XS 3.0 External Hard Drive

If you were wondering when those USB 3.0 hard drives are going to pop up on the market, it’s going to happen sooner than you expected, as today, Freecom have taken the wraps off the new XS 3.0 HDD. Slated as the world’s first USB 3.0  to run on the new technology, the external drive is available in up to 2TB capacities (1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB) and boasts speedier data transfer rates of up to 130 MB/s.

The new Freecom Hard Drive XS 3.0 is a fanless, rubbber-clad piece of machinery that can handle AES 256 bit encryption and which is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 which means that even if you don’t have a 3.0 port, it will still work at 2.0 speeds.

We don’t have the prices for the whole range, but the 1TB Freecom XS 3.0 External Hard Drive is expected to cost close to $175. All three models will be available from mid-November so better have some cash saved if you’re looking to connecting one of these to your computer.

It looks sleek, not too pricey, but certainly needs to pass the test of reliability before it gets our vote.
