It took a long time coming, but the new iPod Nano 5G is here and it packs some cool new features. The big news at Apple’s September 9 event was that the fifth generation Nano has been announced with a video camera that shoots live in H.264 format video with VGA quality (640×480) at up to 30fps. It also comes with AAC audio, as well as a speaker and a microphone.
Other than being packed with a video camera, the new Nano 5G also has some cool real time special effects that include Sepia, Black and White, X-Ray, Film Grain, Thermal, Security Cam, Cyborg, Bulge, Kaleido and Motion Blur, among others.

Under the hood there’s also an FM receiver with a “Live Pause” feature like those found in DVR boxes, iTunes Tagging, a pedometer, voice memos, and VoiceOver support. Another big addition is the larger 2.2 inch display with a 376×240 pixels resolution.
Although it has the same measurements (3.6” x 1.5” x 0.24”) as the 4G iPod, somehow Apple has managed to make it lighter at only 1.28 ounces. More to it, Apple claims to have encapsulated a better battery for up to 24 hours playback time or 5 hours of video playback.
The 5G iPod Nano will hit the stores in a multitude of colors with the 8GB version priced at $149 and the 16 GB version for $179 and, if you’re looking to avail yourself of one you can do so here.
