Whilst the market is positively awash with compact YouTube friendly video cameras Aiptek’s newest compact camcorder, known as the Aiptek PenCam HD Trio, has the distinction of being especially diminutive in terms of sizing allowing it to be tucked neatly away in a pocket or bag until inspiration takes hold.

Okay, agreed, you’d have to have particularly deep pockets unless you mind the PenCam HD Trio protruding somewhat as, whilst its slim it makes up for this in terms of length (don’t we all) but there’s no doubt that its rather distinct form should prove handy whilst out and about (with deep pockets).

The Aiptek PenCam HD Trio compact camcorder, which seems destined to compete against the likes of the Flip and the Creative Vado HD (so it’s got its work cut out for it there) comes with an integrated, rather small 1.1″ OLED 96 x 96 resolution display – its less than generous proportions being dictated by the slim line nature of the device – whilst, in terms of imaging, the device packs in a 5 megapixel CMOS sensor capable of capturing stills as well as up to 720p video footage with the PenCam HD Trio’s built-in 4GB of storage capacity purportedly allowing for up to 120 minutes of video recording.

In terms of additional features it must be said that the Aiptek PenCam HD Trio has little to distinguish itself from the competition in offering 3x digital zoom, voice recording functionality (voice memos and such like) and, whilst you can also factor in an integrated HDMI port this is hardly especially noteworthy, albeit a welcome addition. Of course it also comes bundled with software allowing easy uploading of video content to YouTube but, these days, and in terms of compact video cameras, that’s not so much of a perceived bonus rather than a given.
