Toshiba JournE Multimedia Touch Tablet Announced

While everyone is waiting for Apple’s Tablet PC, Toshiba have scored over everyone with their new JournE Touch Multimedia Tablet. The JournE tablet features a 17-inch 16:9 resistive touchscreen with LED backlighting and a stylus for non touch-optimized apps, adds a brushed aluminum body and will come in several colors to match your style.
It has a wide range of codecs under the hood (H.264, DivX and WMV), comes with WiFi connectivity and access to online services such as YouTube and Flickr. For browsing, there is Internet Explorer running on Windows CE 6.0 Pro.
Despite being only 14mm thick and weighing around 400 grams, Toshiba JournE packs quite a punch and is able to deliver 1080p video over an HDMI plug in its dock. It has 1GB of built-in storage that can be expanded via an SD slot or through external storage connected via USB.
The Toshiba JournE Touch will set you back 250 Euro (some $360 at today’s rate) and will go on sale in Europe by the end of this year with other regions following early next year. Although more expensive than most netbooks, we definitely think it’s justified by its feature set, and should be much cheaper than what the Apple Tablet would cost if/when released.
