sony ericsson xperia x2 smartphone

The rumors that started with a leak a while back have just been confirmed with Sony officially announcing the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 smartphone — which is the successor to the Xperia X1 that released last year.

The new Xperia 2 is slimmer than the old version, packs a 3.5 inch WVGA OLED touchscreen, an 8.1 megapixel camera with 30fps video recording capability, GPS, A-GPS, a ‘custom’ Windows Mobile 6.5 OS which is supposed to be as fast as the iPhone along with an option to upgrade to Windows Mobile 7.

The Xperia panel interface is still there with the 14 panels pre-loaded on the smartphone and 16 others that are downloadable — each being meant for a specific functionality.

There is also a “Remote Panel” that allows you to control and access media content on a PS3 over a network.

Xperia 2 comes with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that makes it easy to type out long emails or documents. There’s also TV out connection for hooking up with a projector or another display.

Vodafone has bagged exclusive carrier rights for the Xperia X2. No pricing details has yet been announced so far, but what we know is that the release date has been confirmed for early Q4 when it should be available in “Elegant Black” and “Modern Silver” flavors.
