Well, the rumors have proven themselves out with respect to ASUS launching an updated version of its popular EeeBox home entertainment PC. Listed on the ASUS website as the EeeBox EB1012, this latest iteration in the small but powerful EeeBox line of PCs has definitely upped the ante in the category. The EeeBox EB1012 Entertainment PC is touted as the ideal Full HD entertainment center for your living room. It has multiple I/O ports for connectivity including eSATA for efficient, high speed data transmission and it uses 80% less power than a typical desktop.
When it comes to integrating your PC into your home entertainment system, the smaller the system the better. Who has the room to install a complete desktop system next to their TV? The EB1012 is about the size of a wireless router and it proves itself a full-featured entrant into a relatively uncrowded market. The EB1012 is powered by the Intel Atom 330 dual core processor, which is built specifically for PCs like the EB1012. And with the accompanying NVIDIA Ion graphics processor, the EB1012 is sure to not leave you hanging when it comes to impressive multimedia performance.
The EB1012 comes with HDMI connectivity to provide high definition video playback and is further complemented by an audio jack with S/PDIF 5.1 channel support. The accompanying ASUS’ Total Media Center application lets you browse, organize and view the various files in your media library and the unit supports multiple video formats like MPEG, WMV, and VC1. Aside from the USB (x6), VGA, HDMI, Ethernet, and audio-out ports, the EB1012 also has an eSATA port for high-speed data transfers from external storage devices. As for wireless connectivity, the EB1012 features WLAN 802.11n that gives you faster surfing speeds and higher throughput when compared to other wireless standards.
No word yet on when the newest EeeBox home entertainment PC will hit store shelves and pricing has yet to be released. For more info and additional pictures and specs head over to www.asus.com.
