
The success of the Amazon Kindle and Sony’s recent announcement of the Sony Reader Daily Edition have both demonstrated that there is money to be made with ebook readers. And when there’s money other corporations will want a piece of the cake, speaking of which, according to rumor-new-site DigiTimes, it looks like Asus is preparing to launch a new EEE eBook reader?
The new reader will be placed under the Eee line that houses the lower-end, all-in one Asus computers like the Eee PC netbook. That kind of makes sense because Asus will have to include 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity with the reader, if they ever want to compete with Sony and Amazon. Plus, it would be necessary to support protected as well as unprotected e-book formats just to make our day better.
According to Asus President Jerry Shen, the company will have its first ebook reader on the market before the end of this year.
The same report says that MSI is also looking to have their very own ebook reader as well, although the company is only said to be currently “investigating” the market to see if there’s room for money making …
