Magellan Debuts the RoadMate 1700 Super-sized Navigator

7-inch Touchscreen, Text-to-speech and Turn-by-turn Voice

Magellan RoadMate 1700 Navigator

Road navigators have become more and more popular, hence why manufacturers are fighting for the most sleek and the most powerful. A good example is Magellan who have just announced their new RoadMate 1700, a portable GPS receiver with a really large-sized 7-inch WVGA touchscreen.

Looking at the new RoadMate 1700, other than its display it isn’t all that different from other models if we’re to consider its features. It’s a pretty standard navigator with AAA Tourbook, Text-to-speech and turn-by-turn voice prompts. There’s also a Micro SD card slot to bring your own stuff, PC connectivity, highway lane assist and pre-loaded maps of the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico.

The new Magellan RoadMate 1700 will most likely be targeted straight towards truckers and RV drivers, with the point that a large screen would be much better to see directions on than using a smaller screen of a smartphone (like the iPhone for example).

There isn’t an exact release date with the product yet, but it has made an appearance online on several retailers, with a coming soon price tag. BestBuy is one of them, witt the new RoadMate 1700 available on pre-order for $300.
