I personally don’t understand what would make a person want to spend upwards of $400 on a remote control for their home theater set-up. Are we not lazy enough? Anyway, the world of high-end remotes has just gotten a little big bigger with the latest product introduction from the folks at Logitech, the Logitech 900 remote control. It’s packed with features and eye candy and is sure to give you even more reason to remain a completely sedentary blob.

The Logitech 900 is based on the Harmony One platform and sports most of the same features. This time, Logitech has added radio frequency (RF) control right out of the box with no additional programming. So what does this mean to you? Well, for starters, it means that you can control most of your A/V components through cabinet doors and walls. No more having to leave them hanging open while you’re watching TV.

The Harmony 900 still has a full-color touchscreen and the intuitive four-zone button layout that provides for intuitive touch control. As with all of Logitech’s Harmony remotes, you can control the sound system, the TV and the DVD/Blu-Ray player, all at the touch of a button, via Harmony’s one-touch activity-based control. Actually, you can control up to 15 devices with a single Harmony 900. Maybe if you can afford 15 A/V devices you can afford to pay someone to change the channels for you.

The Harmony 900 can control devices from up to 100-ft away, and with the new RF option through closed doors. By placing the included IR (InfraRed) blaster and one or two of the mini blasters on cabinet shelves within sight of the devices you want to control, the RF receivers in these devices will translate RF commands sent from the remote into IR – a language your components are sure to understand. On the 900′s touchscreen, you can pick and choose which devices are controlled with RF and which are controlled with standard IR signals.

Logitech’s Harmony 900 should be available sometime in September. For a mere $399.99 you get a charging cradle, a rechargeable battery, power supply, IR blaster and two mini blasters.
