Lexar have just released their new range of Crucial 2.5″ solid state drives known as the Crucial M225 Series which Lexar bill as a new generation of Crucial SSDs offering up to 250MB/s read and 200MB/s write speeds (in the case of the 256GB M225 model).
Utilising a SATA 2.0 (3Gb/s) interface and featuring MLC NAND flash components housed in an industry standard 2.5-inch drive enclosure the new Lexar Crucial M225 SSD range consists of three capacities – namely 64GB, 128GB and the aforementioned 256GB models – and, as well as being especially suited for use with notebooks are equally at home in desktops when used in conjunction with the Crucial SK01 External Drive Storage Kit which is available separately.
“By upgrading their system with a solid-state drive, mobile computer users will enjoy a faster, more rugged system with storage built for mobility. The fact that SSDs don’t have any moving parts makes Crucial solid-state drives quieter, cooler, and more durable than traditional hard drives,” said Robert Wheadon, Lexar Media’s senior worldwide product marketing manager who, it has to be said, seemingly couldn’t think of anything other than the bleeding obvious when announcing the new SSD drives.
The new Lexar Crucial M225 SSDs will set you back around $170, $330 and $600 for the 64GB, 128GB and 256GB variants respectively.
