If up until now Tesla was the name to come to mind for a must have plug-in sports car, in a few years things are about to change now that Mercedes-Benz have confirmed their all-electric SLS AMG Gullwing model for production. The new electric Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing is expected to make a striking debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show with a tentatively set for a debut in 2015.

The zero-emission SLS (or Mercedes SLS eDrive as it goes by) won’t be a much different version from the production SLS, featuring the same aluminum body and those incredibly chic gullwing doors. However this new puppy is going to cause serious drooling with what’s under the hood.

With four electric engines to power the four wheels and generate 98kW of power each (or 133hp), a new suspension system with a pushrod at the front axle and also featuring an upgraded chassis, the new Mercedes All-electric SLS AMG Gullwing is damned to please both the green minded and the adrenaline junkies, as it goes naught to 100km/h in about 4 seconds, towards a relatively unimpressive top speed of 193 km/h (120mph).

Expected to run the streets in 2015, so far the electric SLS is expected to boast a 150 and 180 km (93 and 112 miles) rangea and should take 5 to 6 hours to fully charge (on a high-density power-line).

Check out these SLS AMG pics … it should be a hit, don’t you think?
