FON Unveils Fonera 2.0n Wireless Router for US Market

With the launch of the Fonera 2.0 wireless router in Europe earlier in the year, FON took the integration of Wi-Fi and Web 2.0 content management to an entirely new level. It allowed users to seamlessly integrate their online content management and wireless networking and it had others around the world clamoring for information on when it would be available for them. Well, the wait is finally over as FON has just announced that it is releasing the North American version of their Fonera, the Fonera 2.0n.
The Fonera 2.0n combines FON’s Wi-Fi sharing features with integration and management of popular Web 2.0 services like YouTube, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, BitTorrent, and RapidShare. And users can take advantage of this feature even while their computer is turned off. This gives users the ability to upload, download and synch all of their web apps while away from home without having to wait hours for the download to complete.
The Fonera 2.0n is built around the faster 802.11n standard, has a greater range and faster throughput than 802.11g routers, and more powerful processors and integrated software allowing it to run parallel applications and simultaneous uploads and downloads. The unit also sports a built-in USB hub that allows users to connect external hard drives and other devices. Additional features include the ability to backup files to a hard drive, print, or access a remote webcam via Wi-Fi, and convert an HSDPA or 3G dongle to Wi-Fi.
The Fonera 2.0n is not yet available for purchase on the company’s website. The original Fonera 2.0 retails for about 50EUR (about $70) so I would expect the Fonera 2.0n to be in the same ballpark. Head over to www.fon.com for additional information.
