Seagate Announces Cheetah 15K.7 Enterprise-Class HDD

Seagate announced that it has commenced worldwide distribution of its new Cheetah 15K.7 enterprise-class hard drives. Touted as the highest performing, highest capacity 3.5-inch mission critical hard drives in the market, the Cheetah 15K.7 offers best-in-class reliability for most Tier 1 environments.
The Cheetah 15K.7 drive is marketed as an ideal solution for a wide range of server and storage applications. With the Cheetah 15K.7 hard drive, Seagate has surged past its competition to deliver the industry’s first 15K-rpm drive with a 600GB capacity. The Cheetah HDD is also specified to deliver record reliability of 1.6 million hours MTBF.
Available with the latest 6 GB/s SAS or 4 GB/s FC interfaces, the Cheetah 15K.7 drive includes Seagate’s PowerTrim technology, which is designed to dynamically reduce power consumption throughout the device’s lifetime. Seagate is hoping to market the features of the new Cheetah HDDs to an audience that will see the benefits of delivering lower-cost, multi-drive servers and storage systems. The Cheetah 15K.7 appears to be idea for use in both mid-size and larger enterprises.
