Insignia NS-HD01 Portable HD Radio

A relative newcomer to the airwaves, HD radio had promised to deliver high fidelity, CD-quality sound along with additional digital content (like surround sound) subscription-free and over the air. The downside was that you had to buy a new tuner to take advantage of the additional content. Not only did you have to purchase a new HD radio tuner, but you had to be in your car or other relatively non-transportable technology to get the signal. What a downer, especially if you wanted your HD radio on the go. Best Buy announced today that it has started to sell the world’s only portable HD radio player, the Insignia NS-HD01.
Best Buy and the makers of the Insignia NS-HD01 are hoping that this will finally give the format the strong legs that it needs to stand on in order to survive. They are also hoping that by pricing it under the $50 price point they will attract a more cost-conscious consumer that may have yet to experience the HD radio format.
The NS-HD01 comes with a built-in, rechargeable Li-ion battery and a full-color LCD screen to increase the ease of use and “eye candy” factors. You also get an armband and a 3.5 mm jack output so you can hook it up to your car stereo. The integrated software allows you to set up to 10 user-selectable preset memory channels.
