AT&T and Nokia have officially confirmed the up and coming availability of the 3G Nokia Surge smartphone which comes with a slider style QWERTY keyboard, a 2.4″ 240 x 320 resolution display and which, thanks to its social network friendly nature is billed as being billed as ‘a socially supercharged smartphone’.
The Nokia Surge, which runs Nokia’s Symbian S60 OS, offers SMS, SMS, email and Instant Messaging functionality and, as you’d expect from a ’socially supercharged’ handset the Surge will allow users to upload stills imagery and video (captured with its 2 megapixel camera) to the likes of Flickr, YouTube and Facebook with ease whilst, in terms of other key features, you can also factor in inbuilt GPS which, with AT&T’s Navigator application allows the device to function as a reasonably feature-rich PND and there’s also Napster Mobile, eMusic Mobile and XM Radio support allowing users to download music to the phone.
“Designed in the U.S., this socially charged smartphone comes in a sleek slide form factor that supports social networking and messaging – and all on an open platform,” said David Petts, vice president and general manager, AT&T Account, Nokia. “Together with AT&T, we’re excited to address the increasing demand for smartphones with a device that’s as attractive to the customer as it is to his or her wallet.”
