Everyone knows that motorcycles are cool. From Easy Rider to Ghost Rider, the symbol of the lone cyclist cruising down the road, the wind whipping through his hair is something that is now part of the indelible pop-culture landscape. We also know that your level of cool tends to go down once you pop a squat on a scooter. They just aren’t the same. But what if you could combine the hard-edged look of a motorcycle with the functionality of a small-scale scooter? Leave it up to the Germans to get this one right with their Sachs MadAss 125 motor scooter.
The MadAss 125 made me think about what would happen if you bred a Doberman Pinscher with a Chihuahua. This bike might be a scooter but it has the spirit of a full-sized hog. The MadAss (gotta love that name) employs the Sachs frame design that’s touted as the main reason that this thing handles so well. Since the design has the banana swing arm, the rear mono shock, and main frame all running parallel to each other, jolts from the rear wheel are sent forward into the front suspension, and not crashing into your spinal column. Here’s the spec list:
- Engine Type: Air-cooled DOHC 4 valve single
- Capacity: 124cc
- Maximum Power: 11bhp
- Maximum Torque: 8Nm @ 7500 rpm
- Transmission: Manual
- Front Suspension: Hydraulic fork
- Rear Suspension: Monoshock with adjustable spring preload
- Front Brake: 260mm disc
- Rear Brake: 210mm disc
- Tires: Front – 90/90-16, Rear: 120/80-16
- Seat Height: 33.7-in
- Length/Width/Height: 72.4×29.9×40.8-in
- Dry Weight: 219.6 lbs
- Fuel Tank Capacity: 1.35-gal

Other MadAss 125 features include twin H.I.D. headlights with 55 watts of white light, and dual disc brakes. Aggressive low-profile tubeless tires mounted on 16-in alloy rims and 43mm front forks round out this impressive performer from Sachs. Available in black, dark gray, silver, and yellow, the Sachs MadAss 125 can be yours for $2,700 at www.moto-scoot.net.
