LaCie have added once again to their LaCinema range of hard disk based media players with the release of the new LaCie LaCinema Rugged High-Definition Media Player which builds upon the capabilities of its predecessor in supporting 1080p (Full HD) video playback which, thanks to an integrated HDMI port, can be output to any suitably HDMI equipped HDTV.

Sporting an aluminium shell with shock resistant rubber sleeve designed by Neil Poulten (no surprise there), the LaCie LaCinema Rugged High-Definition Media Player supports a raft of file formats and codecs – specifically MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (AVI, VOB, IFO, ISO), MPEG-4 (AVI, XviD), H.264, WMV9, and VC-1 as well as MP3, WMA, MP4, WAV, OGG, PCM, DTS pass-through, AC3, AAC, JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP – whilst getting content onto the drive is a breeze thanks to an inbuilt USB port. Additionally further connectivity, on an above the aforementioned HDMI and USB posts, comes in the form of Composite video with analogue stereo and digital optical audio also in evidence.

Offering 500GB HDD based storage capacity, the LaCie LaCinema Rugged High-Definition Media Player, which comes with remote, has just become available for $350.
