With the iPhone OS 3.0 in full swing it was just a matter of time until Twitter addicts would get the new “push notification” feature, implemented for their handsets. So here’s iTwitter, the first free iPhone Twitter client application to do push notifications. It allows you to access your friends’ timelines, does direct messages (DMs), @Replies, favorites, following and follower lists, and a compose screen.
Other than all these, iTwitter also adds to the fun with the ability to display nearby tweets, can easily be integrated with TwitPic, offers a fast RT option, a landscape keyboard and custom searches which you can save. But of course the most interesting feature of iTwitter is the Push Notification function that pop-ups messages directly on your touchscreen.
And even though it’s rumored to work like a charm there’s a small drawback. Apparently push only works if the person @replying or DMing you is using iTwitter too — we can’t find any good reason for such a serious restriction, but that’s the way things have to be if you want to have iTwitter running on your iPhone.
