Go Green and Decorate Your Own Cardboard Speakers

Eco Speakers by Merkury

The green movement is certainly not a fad anymore. Just about everywhere you look you can see evidence of manufacturers that have decided to do right by Mother Earth. It does seem, however, that one of the last holdouts on the decision to go green is the electronics industry. With a majority of our gadgets and gizmos being made in countries where the focus is more on profit than the green movement, it’s certainly easier to get your hands on environmentally friendly dish soap than it is a computer. But what if you could design and build your own set of Earth-friendly speakers? The Eco Speakers by Merkury let you do just that.

The Eco Speakers by Merkury are truly designed to make a point. These design-it-yourself speakers are part of an eco-friendly kit that contains two cardboard speakers and a set of six colored pencils. The speaker housings are essentially fold-flat recycled cardboard that you can then personalize with the included art supplies. According to the manufacturer, they speakers offer plug and play design and universal compatibility allowing you to play music from whatever kind of system you want. These speakers are portable, customizable and made with 70% recycled materials.

While there’s not word on whether or not the colored pencils are made using eco-friendly materials, we still think this kit was built to send a message. No matter which industry you are in you can still do your part to make things a bit better for the environment. As for the sound quality of the speakers, at $18 I can’t imagine you’ll be taking them to too many parties. You can pick up your own set of Eco Speakers at www.urbanoutfitters.com.
