canon selphy bp790 compact photo printer

Having only just posted concerning Canon’s new PIXMA AIO’s – namely the PIXMA MP560 and PIXMA MP490 – we felt it incumbent on us to also offer a heads up concerning another new release from Canon in the form of their latest SELPHY Series printer – the Canon SELPHY BP790.

The Canon SELPHY BP790, which takes the form of a bucket styled device (one could be excused for thinking it doubles up as a shredder – it doesn’t), utilises dye-sublimation printing technology which, in essence, means it employs heat to transfer ink to the paper, which may not sound especially effective to the uninitiated but the result is accurate reproduction of some 16.8 million colors whilst the printer also coats the resulting prints with a cleat protective film – meaning your prints should prove more resistant to dirt, dust and sunlight (resulting in colors fading) than other non-coated prints.

Capable of printing a full color postcard sized print in around a minute, the Canon SELPHY BP790 Compact Photo Printer, which comes complete with a 3″ LCD display, offers up 300 x 300dpi resolution (not a touch on the 9600 x 2400 dpi offered by the aforementioned and above linked PIXMA MP560) whilst also offering up USB connectivity – allowing you to print directly from USB flash drives and from USB enabled cameras without PC intervention.

The Canon SELPHY BP790 Compact Photo Printer will set you back around $180.
