iPhone 3G S Jailbreak Available Now [iPhone 3G S PurpleRa1n Jailbreak Utility Released]

We offered you a heads up concerning the Dev Team’s up and coming Ultrasn0w iPhone Jailbreak Utility early last month and now, less than a month later, the big news that anyone wishing to jailbreak their new iPhone 3G S running the 3.0 firmware is here – the iPhone 3G S PurpleRa1n jailbreak utility is now available.

The work of Geohot, the PurpleRa1n jailbreak utility for iPhone 3G S running 3.0 firmware, which will allow end users to run numerous modifications, load up strictly unofficial apps and facilitate the skinning of their iPhone 3G S as well as – and this is certainly one of the main draws – unlock the device for use on other GSM networks will, unfortunately, only work with devices running the 3.0 firmware so users who have updated to 3.1 are, for want of a better word, stuffed. Or at least they are in the meantime – though the meantime could be somewhat more extended than would otherwise have been the case were it not for the vulnerability that was being utilised to exploit 3.01 being fixed by Apple.

The PurpleRa1n jailbreak utility for iPhone 3G S requires a PC running Windows with the latest iteration of iTunes installed though Geohot has confirmed that a Mac friendly version is in the offing. Once your iPhone 3G s is jailbroken, the device can be unlocked thanks to the aforementioned Ultrasn0w utility and you’re away. That said Geohot has advised that the PurpleRa1n jailbreak utility for iPhone 3G S is presently very much a beta so, it goes without saying, you use it at your own risk and in the knowledge that issues are not wholly out of the question (though it’s reported as stable).
