Back in September of last year we offered you a heads up concerning the release of the Facebook 2.0 App for the iPhone and iPod Touch and now we can confirm that the new version – known as Facebook for iPhone 3.0 – of the decidedly popular Facebook app (which, incidentally, is purportedly used by around 25% of all iPhone users) is nearing completion and is set to be submitted to Apple ’soon’.
So what can you expect from the new Facebook 3.0 App? Thankfully Joe Hewitt, the project’s lead engineer, has offered up a pretty comprehensive list of features that seems to have addressed many users feedback concerning the previous version.

Facebook for iPhone 3.0 Confirmed Features:
- The “new” News Feed
- Like
- Events (including the ability to RSVP)
- Notes
- Pages
- Create new photo albums
- Upload photos to any album
- Zoom into photos
- Easier photo tagging
- Profile Pictures albums
- A new home screen for easy access to all your stuff, search, and notifications
- Add your favorite profiles and pages to the home screen
- Better Notifications (they link to the comments so you can reply)
- Quickly call or text people right from the Friends page
- Messages you are typing will be restored if you quit or are interrupted by a phone call
The eagle-eyed amongst you will note that there’s no mention of Push Notifications in the above feature set as this is not included, though Hewitt, in recognising that this is a feature that’s been repeatedly called for, has confirmed that Push Notifications, whilst not making it into the 3.0 release, is set to be offered as an update (v3.1) sometime later this summer.
