Teclast C500HD HD PMP Unveiled [C500HD 5" 720p HD Ready Media Player Brings HD to Your Pocket]

If you’re looking to squeeze some HD goodliness into your back pocket then the newly announced second generation Teclast C500HD PMP certainly appears to tick if not all, the majority of the right boxes in playing ball with 720p HD video content. But, before you get over excited, we should stress that if you’re looking to watch either 720p content on its diminutive display you’re going to be disappointed.

As you’d probably gathered, whilst the Teclast C500HD HD PMP will happily store and playback HD content there’s one slight fly in the ointment – that being that the Teclast C500HD’s 5″ display comes in at 800 x 480 resolution. And, it has to be said (so we’ll say it) a 800 x 480 resolution display isn’t that special, is it (and not anything we have not seem before in a PMP)?

So what’s the rub? Here’s a PMP touted as being a HD PMP (specifically) and it’s seemingly incapable of displaying HD content. Good question. Except it can display the aforementioned HD resolutions, albeit not on its integrated display but on a HDTV thanks to boasting integrated HDMI connectivity. Yes, this is indeed HD in your pocket although whether this makes it a true HD PMP is highly debatable – it’s a PMP that’s capable of outputting HD content, but let’s not quibble.

Offering H.264 encoding support, the Teclast C500HD HD PMP will additionally run with RMBV, AVI, MPG, MP4 and a raft of MKV video formats (ten separate MKV formats according to Teclast) whilst packing 4GB of onboard storage capacity though details rather scant concerning storage expandability (no mention of it accepting SD cards or MicroSD cards).

There’s also no mention of either its date of availability or pricing as at the time of writing which we’ll endeavour to rectify the moment these details are made known to us.
