NEC LaVie Light Lui Mobile Netbook [WiMax Enabled Atom Powered Netbook]

NEC have officially announced their new, WiMax enabled, Atom powered netbook – the NEC LaVie Light Lui Mobile Netbook, which, apart from offering up WiMax connectivity (seemingly as standard) seems a fairly rudimentary affair in coming with a 1.66GHz Atom N280 under the hood paired with 1GB RAM.

As you have probably gathered, were it not for the integration of WiMax, there’s really not that much on offer here that we haven’t seen a thousand times over. Indeed, if you were to take WiMax out of the equation completely, it’s really not all that newsworthy. That said, the NEC LaVie Light Lui Mobile Netbook does come with WiMax, and that just about swings it for us.

In terms of overall specifications and features, if we say that the LaVie Light Lui ticks all the boxes in line with standard netbook offering you’ll know what to expect and if you’d like to write those down and tick them off as we go along the follow may, at least, have some interest value.

The NEC LaVie Light Lui Mobile Netbook comes with a 10.1″ LCD display offering a maximum resolution of 1024 x 600, the aforementioned Atom N280 CPU and 1GB RAM, a 160GB hard disk, 1.3 megapixel webcam and onboard Wi-Fi (802.11n) connectivity. You’ve checked all those boxes, haven’t you?

Interestingly, however, Bluetooth also appears to be on offer as standard – were this a Dell netbook/notebook, that would cost you extra – whilst the NEC LaVie Light Lui Mobile Netbook’s battery endurance is placed at the upper end in coming in at 8.5 hours operation based on a full charge. Agreed, MSI’s latest Wind netbooks exceed this, but there’s plenty of netbooks (and even laptops) out there that don’t.

There’s no word from NEC concerning unit pricing as at the time of writing, however, NEC have at least seen fit to et us know when the LaVie Light Lui Mobile Netbook will drop – that being 9^th July, in Japan.
