Mvix Cooks Alphabet Soup with Latest Media Player [Multi-Format, MX-800HD 1080p Media Center]

The only thing more plentiful than companies touting their products as “The Ultimate” is the multitude of media formats that are being shoved into our entertainment centers on a daily basis. Do any of these sound familiar: H.264, MKV, WMV9, MOV, RM/RMVB, TS, HD Divx. It’s enough to give you a content coronary. I mean, are we actually expected to purchase separate devices to play our digital music, stream our television programs, and record our HD movies? I think not. The engineers at Mvix have decided that it’s finally time to release their latest creation, the Mvix Ultio Media Box.

The Ultio is the follow-up to their Mvix PVR and it can handle anything you want to throw at it content-wise. The list of compatible formats is way too long to list here and it would probably force you to look away in disbelief anyway. Suffice it to say that if it’s out there you can play it with the Ultio. Unfortunately, the base unit doesn’t come with a 3.5-inch SATA HDD. If you are so inclined, you can add one for $79/48GBP (500Gb) $90/54BGP (1Tb) or $139/84GBP (1.5Tb).

As you should expect, network streaming is included, with Mvix’s usual suite of Samba/UPnP/BitTorrent via Ethernet or optional Wireless-N. It is also supposed to “seamlessly” support services like PlayOn or Tversity (for streaming video content from Netflix, Hulu, CBS, Youtube, CNN, ESPN and much more).

Since the products aren’t shipping yet (expect them July 6th), you’ll have to settle for being one of the lucky few to be accepted for limited pre-order. The price tag is a comfortable $169/103 GBP for the base model and includes:

The Mvix is truly a catchall when it comes to multi-media format management. It offers true 1080p HD capability via HDMI output and its pretty scalable depending upon your individual needs.
