Following on from Pentax announcing their Optio W80 durable point and shoot camera, AgfaPhoto have just announced their new AgfaPhoto AP DV-600uw compact point and shooter that, like the W80, is built to withstand both knocks and scrapes as well as being submerged under water.

Admittedly, the AgfaPhoto AP DV-600uw compact camera, which comes with a 2.4″ TFT LCD display and 32MB onboard memory (of which, curiously, only 16MB appears available for the storage of imagery – thankfully it takes SD cards, however), isn’t going to win any awards in terms of aesthetics. Frankly we’ve seen digital cameras aimed specifically at young children look more inspiring. But underneath that insipid, dull, unimaginative, characterless styling lays a compact that offers waterproofing to depths of up to 30ft (more than that offered by the W80, incidentally) and which will also allow you to capture (VGA) videos as well as still imagery from a submerged vantage point.
In terms of resolution, its not especially inspiring, at only 6 megapixels (the afore linked Optio W80 boasts double the resolution), but as no thrills compact camera that’ll serve as a great companion to those hazy poolside parties and/or trips to the Med, the AgfaPhoto AP DV-600uw will undoubtedly prove adequate (if not anything more).
The AgfaPhoto AP DV-600uw Waterproof Camera is set to become available in the US from July and will retail for just shy of $200.
