According to reports just surfacing, Intel are set to phase out their widely employed Atom N270 CPU – which is at the core of pretty much every netbook out their right now – with the release of its successor, the Intel Atom N450 (otherwise known as “Pine View”).

Due to be offered alongside the new NM10 chipset (known as “Tiger Point”), the new Atom N450, which is a single core chip fabricated using Intel’s 45mm processing technology, comes with integrated Northbridge and will offer not only enhanced performance but also decreased power requirements.

Both the Atom N450 Pine View and the NM10 Tiger Point chipset are set to hit around October though Intel will, at least until the beginning of 2010, still supply the N270 CPU to OEMs requiring it (though we’d suggest that only budget devices will come with N270′s at that juncture).

Having posted about so many N270 based netbooks here on TFTS we would like to wish the N270 a fond farewell though its not as if we weren’t getting a little bored of its vice-like grip on the netbook market.
