Asus have introduced a new HD media streamer in the form of the Asus O!Play HDP-R1 HD Media Player which is billed as offering ’stunning 1080p Full High Definition entertainment’ and which, whilst packing in a somewhat impressive range of multimedia file format compatibility, comes sans Wi-Fi wireless connectivity – which will doubtless turn many a prospective buyer elsewhere.
If you can live with connectivity of a strictly wired bent, and we suspect many seeking a HD (or even SD) media streamer will be (understandably) shaking their heads right now, the Asus O!Play HDP-R1 HD Media Player offers up eSATA and USB ports, as well as Ethernet, HDMI, Composite video/audio and optical digital audio and supports a myriad of media file formats such as MP4, MOV, XviD, AVI, DivX, ASF, WMA, MKV, RM, RMVB, FLV, TS, M2TS, DAT, MPG, VOB video and MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, WAV, FLAC, AIFF audio formats whilst also playing ball with JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIFF image file formats.
Admittedly, as far as multimedia streamers go the Asus O!Play HDP-R1 HD Media Player is hardly the most impressive we’ve featured but if you have eSATA drives packed with multimedia content you’re looking to stream (via wires)around your home it could be worth the briefest of considerations (before moving on elsewhere, no doubt).
Asus are yet to confirm availability or pricing but we expect the price-point to reflect the O!Play HDP-R1 HD Media Player’s rather limited appeal (sorry, but the lack of Draft N connectivity is a major omission that just strikes us as plain lunacy).
