Sony Ericsson Memory Stick Micro Format Dropped

Sony Ericsson have confirmed that they are to drop their Memory Stick Micro memory card format in a gesture that serves to underpin the distinct lack of success of the Memory Stick range in general – a range which Sony initially introduced (and hyped no end) in a bid to corner the memory card market.
Unsurprisingly it’s the runaway success of (specifically) the microSD card format that appears to have ultimately seen the demise of Sony Ericsson’s Memory Stick Micro format and its to that format that Sony will now turn, doubtless begrudgingly, in light of the Memory Stick Micro’s being consigned to extinction.
As for the Sony Ericsson Memory Stick range in its entirely, who can say how long it’ll be before Sony come to the inevitable conclusion that its flogging a dead horse? Personally, we find it refreshing that Sony are waking up and smelling the coffee – even if it is only one cup at a time.
