Acer to Launch World’s First Android-based Netbook [Could Android Succeed Where Linux Failed?]

It’s a fact that most people don’t enjoy their netbooks to run on Linux. Hence why they pay extra for a Windows XP or a Vista license. But will Android, an OS designed for smartphones, be able to change all these. Apparently Acer are going to be the first manufacturer to try it out. Jim Wong, the company’s global president for IT products, have said that they are going to release the world’s first Android-based netbook in Q3 of 2009.

Designed to work on Intel Atom processors, Acer’s new Android netbooks are expected to be priced below current models running on a Microsoft operating system. And although taking a smartphone OS and installing it on a netbook is the unknown here, we can’t wait to see if the market will adopt it.
