Yeah. the real deals have a slide switch rather than a button. MK said the button was dodgey (that is the fake one) but if you look for video demos on youtube you should see that the vidio is great(at least on the real ones)

Buyer beware: Many EBay sellers are flogging cheap knock-off's as MD-80's.

Look for the different power switch, and don't hesitate to ask the seller directly.

I got 2 of the knock-off's and they freeze up, have short battery life and tend to produce corrupted .avi files.

How the hell do set the date on this thing. The manual is in chengrish and I have tried all but hit it with a hammer. Oh yes BTW I'm connecting to a Linux box without problems. Just need to find out how this thing's date works...

when i put mine in voice activation standby mode, it powers off after about 45 secs like it says it does from standyby mode...but in voice activation mode it shouldn't do that right...i mean if the point is to leave it unattended, the voice activation i sso you can do that so it turns on when i hears something, whenever the sound is >=60dbls and within 3 meters...but if it autopowers off even in voice activation standby mode, then how can this be truly used?

Not to worry.
I sorted it myself.
This is the first time I've ever had to format an SD HC card but that's what did the trick.

I find that mine is a bit flakey when connected by USB to my PC, I sometimes push the 'mode' button and it sounds like it's clicked on and off a couple of times and it can be troublesome to get to work as a webcam.

For all that it's an incredible little gadget for so little money.

My camera doesn't seem to want to format the 8gb SDHC card I've put in it.
When I connect to PC it just shows as a storage device but there are no folders etc.
I'm sure there should be a DCIM folder and I've made one but it still won't record to it.

Any ideas?

Help please?

I agree with Ronald K. I purchased one and am very pleased with quality of video. Audio is a bit weak and must ensure voice is within the specified 3 meters (9 feet) or less for it to record audio well. Sometimes the Voice activation mode takes a while for it to start recording.

Thanks for the insight, Ronald - I'm sure others thinking of getting the MD80 will take this on-board.

The camera is constructed of good quality and does take quality video and audio; HOWEVER, the instructions are vague and were written/translated by one who has has very little understanding of the English language. The instructions are terrible and aawfully disgusting.
