Eizo FlexScan EV2023W & EV2303W LCD Displays

With the power consumption of electrical gadgetry having been in the spotlight for some considerable time the majority of display manufacturers have being working tirelessly to curb the power requirements of their displays as well as implement ever stringent energy saving modes but Eizo’s latest LCD displays – the FlexScan EV2023W and FlexScan EV2303W – offer a somewhat more novel approach in a bid to tout a certain, decidedly green flavoured prowess.

It all boils down to what Eizo refer to as a ‘human presence sensor’ which acts to detect your presence in relation to the LCD display allowing both monitors to automatically power down into energy saving mode the moment the sensor detects that you’ve gone walkabout.

It’s not especially clever stuff, certain Canon’s DSLRs have LCD displays that automatically turn off when the camera’s detect that you’re close (and must, therefore, be using the viewfinder) thereby helping to conserve battery life, for example, but the implementation of such sensor technology in LCD displays is certainly an interesting mechanism to allow for automatic power saving and, to that end, Eizo should be applauded for thinking out of the box, so to speak.

Eizo’s 20″ FlexScan EV2023W and 23″ FlexScan EV2303W LCD displays, which offer 1600 x 900 and 1920 x 1080 native resolutions and 3000:1 and 1000:1 contrast ratios respectively, are set to become available from late May and will set you back around $385 and $455 (EV2023W/ EV2303W).
