clearwire clear spot personal hotspot device

Clearwire have introduced their new Clearwire CLEAR Spot Personal Hotspot device which serves as a battery-powered, portable router offering connections of up to eight 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi devices to the net via CLEAR’s mobile WiMAX network at ‘true broadband speeds’.

“With CLEAR Spot, we’ve combined the speed and mobility of our 4G service with the ubiquity of Wi-Fi to create the best possible broadband experience for our customers,” said Scott Richardson, chief strategy officer for Clearwire who introduced the CLEAR Spot Personal Hotspot device. “While many CE devices will eventually include embedded WiMAX technology, our customers can now easily use their existing Wi-Fi-enabled phones, cameras, game systems, or laptops in compelling new ways.

At the time of writing the Clearwire CLEAR Spot Personal Hotspot device will have limited appeal as CLEAR’s mobile WiMAX service is currently only available in Portland, Oregon, though CLEAR are looking to extend their reach to ‘other metropolitan areas across the U.S’. However, those based in Portland who have CLEAR’s mobile WiMAX service can avail themselves of one of these devices for just shy of $140.
