Major PS3 Price Cut Looming?

With the Xbox having seen a spate of price cuts whilst Sony, in their infinite wisdom, have, to date, stood fast with respect to the pricing of its PS3 console, it appears that at long last (and not before time) Sony may be on the verge of announcing a drop in price for its PS3 console in what’s being rumoured as a major global announcement.
At this stage, it must be said, its not been officially confirmed that sony’s up and coming announcement is indeed related to a revision in PS3 pricing but, what with the PS3′s sales flagging way behind those of the Xbox (we don’t see the Wii as being a direct competitor of either of the aforementioned HD consoles) there’s no reason not to think that Sony are set to take the fight to Microsoft or, at the very least, to make the PS3 a more attractive proposition (it is a very attractive proposition as it stands, of course, but its pricing is somewhat unrealistic given market forces).
Personally we can only hope that Sony, given their current strained financial circumstances, have indeed taken a (much needed) reality check as we don’t doubt that many prospective PS3 customers are holding back until the PS3 starts truly jostling against the Xbox for their hard earned cash.
We’ll keep you posted.
