iPhorest for iPhone & iPod Touch [Plant A Virtual Tree, Get A Real Tree Planted]

Few iPhone and/or iPod Touch apps can honestly claim that they’re doing their bit to save the planet, but the new and rather intriguing iPhone/iPod Touch app from iPhactory, known as iPhorest, can make just such a claim as for every virtual tree you plant using the iPhorest app a real seed will be planted.

Using the iPhactory iPhorest iPhone/iPod Touch app users get to dig a hole and sow a seed which, with a little help from subsequent rain storms (conjured by shaking your iPhone/iPod Touch) will begin to grow – and it will continue to grow as the days pass. What makes the iPhorest app particularly interesting, however, is that for every virtual tree planted the Conservation Fund will act to plant a real tree and, from what we can gather, there appears to be no limit as to the number of virtual trees you can plant.

Interestingly, you can also see where you and other iPhorest users have planted their virtual tress thanks to each new tree being marked on a world map – allowing every iPhorest user to keep up to date with the number of new trees being planted as well as see where abouts in the world each seed was initially planted. Obviously, however, the location of each virtual tree corresponds only to the location of the user who planted it as opposed to the location of the real tree planted as a consequence as iPhactory state that the Conservation Fund will be starting (planting the virtual trees real counterparts) with restoration of vulnerable wildlife habitats along the Gulf Coast in the United States.

Undoubtedly a novel and particularly inspired idea for an iPhone/iPod Touch application that is sure to appeal to many, and we for one are already looking to get our first virtual/real tree planted, the iPhactory iPhorest iPhone/iPod Touch app has just been made available via Apple’s App Store and will set you back around $5.
