DSiWare International Availability

Japan may have had Nintendo’s DSi app Store, known as DSiWare, for a while now but those outside of Japan will be encouraged to learn that Nintendo’s DSiWare Store looks like its going to get its international rollout in the (possibly not so near) future.

Serving as Nintendo’s take on Apple’s App store (as well as Goolge’s Android Marketplace), the DSiWare store is the realisation of Nintendo’s increasing interest in getting third party application producers to take up producing applications for Nintendo’s new iteration of the DS in a bid to open up the variety of software applications (known as ‘short-form content’) available to DSi end users which will take the form of both games and non-game downloadable programs.

“Nintendo is keen to have developers offering all kinds of software once the DSi store fully launches for access in Europe and America” said what the Develop website state as a ‘development source’, with another stating that “Nintendo is keen to have developers offering all kinds of software once the DSi store fully launches for access in Europe and America’.

It’s thought that the wider international rollout of DSiWare may be offered at the up and coming Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next week by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata who is set to talk about Nintendo’s role in creating better tools and bringing opportunities for developers to introduce their innovative ideas to a marketplace that is increasingly willing and eager to embrace new game design possibilities.

We will, of course, keep our ears firmly pressed to the ground.
