Toshiba Japan have unveiled a new portable DVD player with dual TV tuners in the form of their SD-P93DTW which takes a somewhat notebook inspired form (actually, its rather more convertable tablet/notebook inspired, as the SD-P93DTW’s 9″ screen can also be swivelled) which, apart from playing DVDs and allowing for TV on the move will also allow end users to record TV broadcasts to SD memory cards.

The Toshiba SD-P93DTW comes with a 9″ 800 x 480 resolution LCD display, and, as alluded to above, comes not only with integrated CD/DVD player but both 1Seg digital and analogue TV tuners – the former allowing for viewing digital TV programming on the move at 15 frames per second – as well as the ability to record TV broadcasts directly to SD/SDHC memory cards. Additionally you can also factor in DivX file format compatibility, Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Out as well as digital photo frame functionality (seemingly JPEG image file format only).

Interestingly, the SD-P93DTW will also happily play ball with both MP3 and WMA audio file formats allowing the device to additionally serve as a (rudimentary) DAP reading audio from either DVDs or CDs of from SD/SDHC memory cards.
Measuring in at a compact 260 x 191 x 34mm and weighing 1.2kg, the Toshiba SD-P93DTW purportedly offers a battery life of around five hours and is set to become available in Japan next month (April) for around the $500 price point.
