GD Itronix GD8000 Fully Rugged Notebook

Following on from the spate of rugged notebooks and tablet PCs we’ve featured of late – the Motion Computing J3400 and the Dell 2nd Gen Latitude E6400 XFR being the latest examples – General Dynamics Itronix have introduced their new GD Itronix GD8000 fully rugged notebook which, according to GD Itronix not only meets but exceeds the MIL-STD 810F military standard for extreme durability.

Capable of withstanding drops of up to 42″ and also being water and dust tight to IP64/IEC 60529 standards, as well being as capable of withstanding 30 gallons of water impacting at speeds of 40 miles for up to four hours and shrugging off ‘helicopter-grade vibrations’, the GD Itronix GD8000 fully rugged notebook comes with a 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2074MB DRAM (expandable to 4096MB if you opt for a 64-bit enabled processor and operating system) under the hood as well as 13.3″ TFT XGA sunlight readable touchscreen display, Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, 120GB 2.5″ HDD (or optional 64MB SSD), and, naturally, integrated GPS and Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/Draft-n) plus Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR.
The GD Itronix GD8000 fully rugged notebook, which offers a battery life of up to a purported 10 hours, has just become available for $3,800.
