Apple Netbook A Reality? Rumours Suggest Apple Netbook Set for Q3 Release

Back in January we reported that rumours concerning the possibility of an Apple netbook being in the works were seemingly unfounded following on from comments made by Apple’s Steve Jobs but, even then, we remained sceptical that Apple wouldn’t want to cash in on the alarming popularity of the netbook format and, if new rumours just surfacing are to be believed, it appears that our guarded scepticism may prove to have been pretty much on the nail.
According to DigiTimes, it’s reported that none other than Quanta Computer have been tasked with assembling a new Apple netbook with Wintek being called upon to produced the netbook’s touchscreen displays with view to shipping the touch panels in the second half of this year – thus freeing up the way for an Apple netbook being released sometime in Q3 (though probably later). That said, we should stress that we’ve covered a few rumours emanating from DigiTimes in the past and, whilst by no means unreliable, they don’t have an exemplary record for always getting things right.
As far as we are concerned, however, and despite comments made by Steve Jobs, we still maintain that an Apple netbook is more than a just a distinct possibility and would therefore tend to (or would, perhaps, just like to) believe that these newly surfacing rumours should be taken with more than just a pinch of salt.
We’ll keep you updated though, obviously, you’ll have to accept that any official word from Apple will be a long time coming and that any consequent Apple denials are one thing that certainly should be taken with a pinch of salt (Apple are well known to play things decidedly close to their logo emblazoned corporate chest).
