nokia n5800 xpressmusic us version

Earlier this week we confirmed that, due to 3G connectivity issues experienced by US based N5800 users (specifically concerning connecting to AT&T’s 3G network in the New York and Chicago areas), Nokia had decided to pull the North American version of the N5800 from sale whilst they looked into the widely reported issues or, rather, whilst they worked on a ‘quick remedy’. Well now Nokia have confirmed that they have fixed the problem and that sales will resume again shortly.

Nokia’s statement reads as follows:

Following the introduction of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in North America, some consumers reported difficulties connecting with the local 3G network. As customer satisfaction and product quality are a priority for Nokia, we took immediate action by temporarily suspending sales and moving quickly to identify the root cause and resolution.

We have concluded this was an isolated situation related to a configuration change in the North American variant. We have now adjusted the configuration and will resume sales shortly. Those few customers of the Nokia N5800 XpressMusic who experience a 3G signal issue are advised to contact Nokia Customer Care. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

No word as yet as to quite when the N5800 will once again become available in these areas, but if you have already splashed out for one of Nokia’s N5800 XpressMusic cell phones and you happen to reside in the afore mentioned locals (and have experienced connectivity issues) you’re advised to contact your nearest Nokia store with view to getting your N5800’s firmware updated or your handset replaced.
