Flash Support, 3D UI

Verizon Wireless have officially confirmed (not that it wasn’t already well known) that they are set to carry the LG Versa (Versa being short for Versatility) touchscreen cell phone which comes with detachable QWERTY keypad and user customisable 3D UI, as of 1st March.

As alluded to above, one of the key features of the LG Versa is its detachable QWERTY keypad – which, incidentally, has an mini OLED back mounted display – which can be added and removed according to user requirements as well as the Versa’s animated 3D user interface, displayed on the Versa’s 3″ touchscreen, which can be customised according to preference and which will allow up to three differing home screens. Another undoubted key feature that is sure to serve as a considerable draw is the LG Versa’s web browser that (unlike the iPhone) offers Flash support as well as offering RSS Feed aggregation.

Other features include a 2 megapixel camera (disappointing – though it does feature face detection), DAP capabilities with stereo Bluetooth, in-built GPS and, by no means least, EV-DO Rev connectivity for high speed data transfer. You can also factor in Verizon’s V Cast Music with Rhapsody, V Cast Video, Visual Voice Mail applications as well as VZ Navigator.

The draw, however, is the LG Versa’s ability to accept attachments, the aforementioned QWERTY keypad being the first such bolt-on, with LG hinting that further attachments in the pipeline include such as an external speaker (hopefully capable of being paired via stereo Bluetooth with the Versa so that it can be used remotely as well as when hooked up with the handset) and a separate gamepad style controller.

Set for a 1st March release, the Verizon Wireless LG Versa will set you back around $200 following a $50 mail in rebate (taking the form of a debit card as opposed to cold hard cash) based on a two year contract whilst, as we understand it, if you’re looking to use your LG Versa as a modem with laptops/notebooks you’ll also have to factor in the Mobile Broadband Connect monthly fee of $60 (based on a 5GB data transfer per month limit).

    1. J.Tanner says:

LG Versa does have the detachable keyboard which is a very creative way to keep the touch screen but also have the keyboard for extended writing. This idea would be great as an attachment to current cell phones and iphones using blue tooth technology. the case would allow the phone to slip into one part while the wireless keyboard would slip in the other half. This would allow our touch screen cell phones to operate like a PDA improving it’s business functions.

    2. Yes, indeed – and there’s no reason why such an idea is not implimented. You have a good point.
